Your mobile phone can also turn into a television. Public sector telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will converge all three streams of voice, video and data on its cellular phones. Service called Inter-Product Television (IPT) will begin this year.
Initially, the service will be launched on an experimental basis in Pune in January while other circles have been asked to select suitable private partners.
All telephone exchanges with more than 1,000 lines will be broadband enabled under the expansion plan, covering 1,000 towns and 20,000 villages.
Aiming to expand broadband coverage for all secondary and higher secondary schools and all primary health centres by December this year, the BSNL is in the process of launching broadband access through Wimax Technology in 1,000 block headquarters.
