The country is adding more than six million mobile connections every month, but the quality of service provided to the subscribers is still way below satisfactory, according to a survey by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Only one out of the 128 cellular licensees - Bharti Airtel in Mumbai - in the country has been able to meet the overall customer satisfaction benchmark of 95 percent.
In Delhi, Idea and MTNL’s services were rated the worst with an index of 84 percent each. In A, B and C circles, not a single operator reached the TRAI’s benchmark index for overall customer satisfaction.
“Overall customer satisfaction level is poor in all circles,” the survey said. On network performance parameters, only 14 out 128 operators met TRAI’s benchmark index of 95 percent. In metro circles, Airtel in Mumbai met the benchmark with 99 percent. Reliance Communications operating in Mumbai was the worst performer with an index of 68 percent.
In A, B and C telecom circles, BSNL and RCoM recorded the worst satisfaction level in network performance with an index of only one percent in Uttar Pradesh (east) circle.
The survey said 75.5 percent of operators achieved 90 percent satisfaction level in prepaid segment against 52.34 percent operators achieving the level in post-paid segment.
