U.S. subscribers find mobile content too expensive, according to a survey conducted by research firm IDC. Forty-seven percent of 18- to 24-year-olds surveyed said data services were too pricy. Even the heavy spenders, those with ARPU of US$60 or more, cited cost as a major barrier to content usage. Of the 2,500 mobile users surveyed, only 27.5% said they had used value-added data services in 3Q06, some of whom said they weren’t impressed with the content on offer. The survey also revealed a small group of U.S. consumers that believes data services are a bad idea, or worse, degrades the calling experience.Education may help this issue, but it’s clear from the survey results that many people just want to use their mobile phone to make calls.
