The newly launched Mozaic SMS Chat - an interactive text-based service from Qtel - has been a massive success across the country with over 11mn messages sent to and from users in the first week. The service was originally launched in Sultanate of Oman where over 100,000 people joined up to make new friends, stay in touch with old friends on MSN, Yahoo and ICQ and use the virtual chat rooms; all via their mobile phone with the familiar SMS interface. SMS Chat was launched in Qatar on February 11 and quickly accumulated 30,000 new users, keen to experience the service that puts them in touch with like-minded mobile users in the direct chat or via chat rooms. Hundreds of more users continued to register with the service every day and, as the number of contributors grows, the benefits increase, said Qtel.
Mozaic SMS Chat is very similar to other chat applications on the Internet where customers could register, create a nickname and start chatting with other users or join public chat rooms to discuss topics such as football and movies. “It connects people with common interests in a convenient and fun way all via their mobile phone.” There are 11 different user chat rooms that people can use. These rooms have rules to maintain integrity and safety for users, particularly in regards to offensive language, violence or other negative attitudes. Typing with capitals is usually considered as shouting and is therefore also discouraged!
To start chatting Qtel customers can simply SMS the word GO to 2800 and follow the instruction to register theirprofile. After registration, users can start searching for new friends based on their profiles or join one of the public chat rooms such as Football, etc. More information on Mozaic SMS Chat can be found at http://mobile.mozaic.qa.
