In order to propel its growth, Bharati Airtel is planning to target the rural areas of the Northeast region. It has planned to set up 2500 Airtel Service Centres (ASCs) in the two telecom circles of Northeast and Assam.
At present the Airtel Northeast subscriber base is at 2.7 million and in the last four years the company invested around Rs 1000 crore in this region.Airtel earns a revenue of around Rs. 75 crore from the Northeast region. Of the 37000 villages in the Northeast region, Airtel is present in at least 22,000.
As the penetration of mobile telephony in the region is around 20 to 21 percent it offers enough opportunity to tap the huge untapped areas.
