GETMO Arabia (a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Media Company and Arvato Mobile), has signed a strategic partnership agreement with leading Middle East and African mobile telecommunications company Zain to deliver a unique 360 degree managed games portal for single and multiplayer games to Zain customers. The portal will be available to Zain subscribers online and via mobile phones across Zain’s 24 territories in the Middle East and Africa.

The portal features are :

§ It is built in a dynamic way; games on the web are updated simultaneously with the mobile portal

§ Multiple languages: English, Arabic, French

§ User Ratings

Zain customers will now have access to cutting-edge games services and top notch games publishers from Getmo Arabia’s long standing relationships with the industry’s biggest names. The service will feature games from some of the leading international & local games publishers via the Zain Create WAP and web portals in three major languages (Arabic, English and French).The multiplayer gaming portal will launch under the umbrella of Zain Create, which already includes music and video content. Gamers will be able to log on to the portal via a web interface or mobile phone to purchase and play games (or continue one they started earlier). It will be available from Zain’s 24 operators in territories such as GCC, Levant and Africa, reaching over 70 million Zain customers.

Gartner adds that operators and game providers can increase usage via game demos and advertising-funded titles–in addition, the firm suggests more tailoring their gaming services to individual consumer demographics, targeting smartphone users with more sophisticated games while reaching out to lower-income subscribers with discounted or free titles.

According to Gartner, the Asia/Pacific market (including Japan) represents the biggest target for mobile gaming, with end-user spending expected to reach $2.3 billion in 2008 and hit $3.4 billion by 2011 thanks in large part to low PC penetration throughout that area of the globe. India alone is expected to generate mobile gaming revenues of $450 million by 2012. While the Western Europe market is expected to increase from $701 million in 2008 to $862 million by 2011, mobile gaming in North America is projected to grow from $845 million to $1.2 billion in 2011.

Worldwide mobile gaming revenue is on pace to total $4.3 billion in 2007, a 49.9% increase from 2006.

Mobile gaming is set to register a strong growth in India even as telcos are betting big on value added services to increase revenues.

While India and China are expected to bolster growth in the mobile gaming sector, revenues from this mobile entertainment in Asia-Pacific region and Japan are forecast to surpass $1.8 billion in 2007 and reach $4.6 billion in 2011, said information and technology research and advisory firm Gartner.

Few weeks back Disney’s subsidiary had funded Greystripes and as per their expansion plan in Asia, they have tied up with ABP to provide Free games.

The Mjoy4free model is similar to Hovr’s, which has an office in India but has so far focused on a global market. We’re told that Hovr has recently tied up with VAS magazine XG for Indian advertisements around their games. Hovr also has a mobile community, but apparently ABP isn’t looking at that option yet.
