The first footage of Moto Blur, Motorola’s just announced social-network-centric homescreen overhaul for Android, has just gone live.

Motorola introduced the first of a new generation of smartphones on Thursday that it hopes will reverse its plummeting cell phone sales.
The phone, called the Cliq, is meant for young people obsessed with social networks. Instead of the traditional menu of features, the Cliq’s home screen is an ever-changing mosaic of e-mail, Twitter tweets and status updates, superimposed over photos of the people sending those messages.
Phone is based on Google’s Android operating system, but Motorola has substantially modified the Google software
to make its phone stand out from the dozen or so other Android phones that are expected to be introduced before the holiday sales season. While phone users will be able to download and use any of the growing list of applications for the Android system, the look of Motorola’s phones and the way they operate will be different from other handsets using the operating system.

Motorola has launched a consumer-facing site in public beta to showcase the content available on its handsets. The site is dubbed Comprehensive Solutions Catalog, and is a place for the MOTODEV community to sell its products. This is not really a content portal—there’s no unified billing system or special download provisions, if people want to buy a product they click on a link which takes them to the developers site…so all the content is already available online/off-portal. The big benefit is collecting new releases for each handset in one place.

Motorola in its bid to provide a better experience to its consumers will now use a multimedia software developed by Sasken in its new Symbian UIQ platform-based cell phones. This is probably the first time that a global cell-phone major will use a wholly Indian software product on such a mass scale.
Sasken’s new application on Motorola’s new phone acts as the core to the video and photo capture applications. Sasken’s multimedia application suite is a range of multimedia applications such as media browser, media capture and media player along with codecs for handset manufacturers. Sasken also has a similar tie-up with NTT DoCoMo phones developed by Panasonic, launched in April this year, but that is limited to Japan.
With Sasken’s IP embedded in it, Motorola is said to be betting big on the RIZR, and is said to be hoping that this will be the successor to the highly successful RAZR series

If you’re carrying a Motorola mobile phone the chances are you are under 24 and fashion conscious.
But if you’ve got a Nokia in your pocket (or briefcase), it’s a fair bet you might be a family-minded, middle-aged manager.
Sony Ericsson handsets are favoured by ambitious young men trying to make their mark; LGs are tops with mums; while Samsungs are wielded by young women focused on their career, a study of mobile phone usage shows.
The survey was conducted by Panorama and released by Nielsen Media Research.
