On Thursday, popular social network Facebook rolled out two new features for its Messenger app: free VoIP calls and the ability to send short voice messages. This update is available for both iOS and Android Messenger apps.
Currently the VoIP feature is available only to iPhone users in Canada. Through this new feature, Facebook users will be able to make free internet voice calls, known as VoIP calls, to any Facebook friend. Users can tap the “i” in the top right corner of the app and then tap “Free Call.”By clicking the ‘i’ icon in the top right of a conversation in the most recent update to Messenger, users reveal a ‘free call’ button which allows them to contact any friend also within the test region.
Users can also record and send short voice messages to their friends. To activate the feature, users have to tap the “+” button to the left of the message body. On doing so, the option to “Record Voice” will appear below, next to Attach a Photo and Camera. Tap that and a red, record button will appear; touch and hold to talk. Release to send, or slide off the button to cancel.
